plant love

It’s a gorgeous morning and per usual the patio doors have been open since before I even made the bed. The birds must be auditioning for Cinderella because they have been singing non stop the past few weeks. We have a few nests in the bushes outside our bedroom window because for the past week I have fallen asleep to tiny little chirps. A month or so back Garrett and I were at HEB and he suggested we just go have a look at the plant selection. He speaks my love language. In an effort to convince myself, I had been voicing the idea of not starting a garden due to moving again. I’m glad he didn’t listen to me. The excitement was too much to be contained. Needless to say, we left with lettuce, kale, purple pepper and tomato plants. I added parsley a few days after when it was the same price to buy a bunch inside or a discount plant by the carts. I love plants, but discount plants are as bad as free kittens for this heart of mine. I want to rescue them ALL. In the excitement of seeing our plant babies grow I also pulled out some seeds to grow cilantro, rosemary, cucumbers and green beans. The amount of restraint I have shown is at super hero level. I have an ongoing list of what I want to grow or purchase. It’s a good thing I met Garrett or I would indeed have become that crazy plant lady. Well, let’s be honest, I’m still headed that direction but at least with another person around maybe it’s a little less crazy… Or maybe not.

It would be all too easy to just go buy the perfect plants. As mentioned, my rescue mission is in full swing. I love the misfits, the under dogs, the misunderstood creatures that wouldn’t make the cover of Home & Garden. They just need someone to love them so they will grow.

We had a little Aloe Vera plant that was butchered by a careless yard man last year. I am proud to say he has fully recovered and has grown into a monster. We were given a wonderful little tree by a friend (ugh, I don’t remember the name) and back when we were gone for two months I thought for sure it had croaked from the summer heat. I trimmed it back and decided to water it for a couple of weeks.  It’s amazing now and in desperate need of a bigger home. My mom gave me a Ivy that needed a little TLC and now I have soon to be three once I plant the vine I have growing in a bottle. Thankfully succulents are like rabbits. Unfortunately the lack of direct sunlight has meant some of them have lived shorter lives than I wish, but I keep replanting the little seedlings and viola. Now my prize is the very underrated Elephant Bush that is now nearing the size of Bright. He used to fit in the palm of my hand. They grow up so fast.

Now seems like a good time to the end myself. A few photos from my phone.
